How RTV ranks

A transparent discovery score. Not a verdict on artistic quality.

Updated September 7, 2026

Sources and refresh schedule

The current automated pipeline searches YouTube using a small set of AI film and drama keywords. Each search requests up to 25 videos published in the preceding 10 days. Results are deduplicated by YouTube video ID, then public titles, descriptions, thumbnails, publication dates, view counts and like counts are retrieved.

Refreshes are scheduled every six hours, at minute 17. Updates can be delayed by API availability, quotas or processing failures. Indexed records can remain in the database after the initial search window; source counts on older listings may be stale.

What goes into the score

SignalHow it is used
FreshnessA decaying weight based on time since source publication.
Source engagementLog-scaled YouTube views and likes.
RTV activityRecorded view and outbound-click counters, when available. These are activity counters, not verified unique people.
Views per hour of ageA lifetime-views-to-age ratio; it is not a measured change between snapshots.

For reproducibility, let h be hours since publication (minimum 0.25). The score is 35 × exp(−h/τ) + 8 × log10(1 + source views) + 5 × log10(1 + source likes) + 9 × log10(1 + RTV views) + 12 × log10(1 + RTV clicks) + 10 × log10(1 + source views / max(h, 1)). Scores are rounded to four decimal places in storage.

Understanding each chart

  • Top ranked: the freshness decay parameter τ is 36 hours. This favors newer work with engagement; it does not measure views gained today.
  • Rising: τ is 120 hours. This is an alternative freshness-weighted score, not a verified growth rate or rank movement.
  • New releases: indexed titles ordered by source publication date.
  • Most viewed: source view counts within the currently loaded top-ranked set, not every video on YouTube.

The ranking calculation currently considers up to 5,000 approved database records and retains up to 100 entries per scored chart. The homepage can load up to 100 records per chart. Search filters the selected loaded chart.

What the numbers cannot tell you

Popularity is not a measure of production quality, originality, ownership or whether AI was used. Views and likes are snapshots reported by the source. They are not verified by RTV and are not necessarily comparable across platforms.

We do not display invented growth percentages, unsupported audience totals or fictional titles when live data is unavailable. Loading, empty and error states are shown explicitly.
