Lo mismo is a profound reflection on the historical repetition of mistakes that lead to wars and on the cyclical surprise at not having seen the signs. A surprise that Goya already reflected in his Disasters of War.

In Lo mismo, two characters ask themselves in a poetic and metaphorical way how it is possible that the same story always repeats itself with wars: that we do not see the signs that inexorably lead us to them and that we do not know how to stop them in time. Using documentary and video art techniques, our piece connects the modern city of Zaragoza, a peaceful city, with the visions that the Aragonese painter Francisco de Goya reflected in his engravings of The Disasters of War. As if he were a modern correspondent, the artist recorded the atrocities that conflict leaves behind, how people become brutalised, how death fills everything. But, and this is where we focus, in the titles of the engravings he also records his perplexity at the fact that history repeats itself, and repeats itself in the same way everywhere, over and over again, as if people did not see it or did not want to see it. There is a certain irony in the repetition of monstrosity: everyone believes that they would not do such things, until they do them or, at least, allow them to be done. The carefully selected engravings are intertwined with the images we see every day of current wars, establishing a communication between them. Goya, a correspondent of the time, could be watching all these images on television with a certain sad irony. It could be one of those voices wondering if it only matters when it happens here. It could be looking at its beloved city of Zaragoza, at peace, afraid that it too will fall back into madness. Lo mismo's proposal, although conceptual, is direct: Goya warned us, we continue to look the other way when it happens in other parts of the world, but will they also close their eyes to our misfortune if it happens here? Are we closing our eyes to the signs that are warning us?
