It all begins with something you can't leave behind. Something that weighs. And isn't willing to let go.
À propos du film
DEAD WEIGHT began with an image: a man dragging something he can no longer carry, yet cannot bring himself to leave behind. I wanted to explore that moment in grief when moving forward can feel like an act of betrayal, as though allowing the pain to fade meant leaving behind the person we have lost. I wanted to give that pain a physical presence: weight, friction, resistance. To make it felt in the body’s posture, in each breath, and in the effort of every step. With no dialogue or musical score, the sound of dragging and the character’s small gestures take on greater significance. The camera keeps its distance, allowing us to accompany him without knowing his whole story. Around him, life carries on as usual. That contrast captures something about grief that unsettles me: how the world can remain unchanged when, for one person, everything has changed. With this film, I wanted to explore how difficult it is to let go when the very thing that hurts us also feels like our last connection to what we love. But you can choose your own stone, and decide whether to let it go or keep carrying it.
