At dawn, a man says goodbye to his wife on the banks of the Mississippi River. He leaves in search of work, hoping to build a better future for them both. As the steamboat disappears downriver, she remains on the pier, watching him go. By nightfall, he reaches New Orleans, carrying a small suitcase, great hopes and a quiet fear of the unknown. Somewhere along the Mississippi, she is waiting for him.
About the film
MISSISSIPPI tells a quiet, emotional story about love, sacrifice and the courage to leave everything familiar behind in pursuit of a better future. At dawn, a man holds his wife in one last embrace before boarding a steamboat on the Mississippi River. He is not leaving because their love has ended. He is leaving because he believes that somewhere beyond the horizon lies an opportunity to earn a living and create the future they dream of sharing. She remains on the pier, watching the boat slowly disappear into the distance. That night, he arrives in New Orleans, alone, with only a small suitcase, a heart full of hope and the uncertainty of what lies ahead. Far away, somewhere along the Mississippi, his wife waits for his return. A short cinematic story about the sacrifices we make for the people we love, and the hope that keeps us connected across distance.

Ludmila Matthies-Schubert is a Hamburg-based AI Creative Director, filmmaker and visual artist, working under LUMIRA Vision. Her work combines cinematic storytelling, experimental visual narratives and generative AI technology, with a focus on original artistic concepts and creative direction. Her experimental AI film THE HUMAN VARIABLE was shortlisted in the New Talent category at HAICA 2026 in Hamburg.
