About the film
Set in a retro-futuristic world, "Hallucination Products" is a satirical mockumentary exploring what happens when the visual mistakes of Artificial Intelligence become reality. The collective Shift Shift decides to manufacture AI’s bizarre errors into physical consumer goods—like a six-fingered glove or an anvil-heavy life jacket. But when these absurd items hit the market, the public weaponizes them. Citizens begin using the products to commit crimes and manipulate security footage, claiming the evidence is just AI-generated. What starts as a deadpan design experiment quickly spirals into a chaotic, post-truth societal rebellion against the system.
Director(s)
Thiago Espeche (Brazil) and Ammiel Fazzari (Argentina) are the co-founders of Shift Shift, an artistic collective exploring the intersection of moving images, technology and contemporary culture. Their work combines satire, visual experimentation and familiar media formats to question how images shape our perception of reality. In their experimental short Hallucination Products, they turn the visual errors of generative AI into imaginary consumer goods, preserving technological imperfections as “AI fossils.” Conceived and written by the filmmakers, the project uses AI as both a creative medium and a subject of investigation. Hallucination Products received the Special Jury Award at the 2026 Future Reality AI Film Festival in New York.
