Synopsis

Bego, a young artist in Barcelona, transforms her partner's devastating abandonment into an intimate journey through the stages of grief. While her pain leads her to create a work that is as visceral as it is dangerous.

About the film

In a loft in the city of Barcelona, Bego, a young 28-year-old artist, faces the painful abandonment of her boyfriend Andrés, 36, with whom she shared three years of her life. Plunged into the emptiness left by the breakup, she embarks on an inner journey marked by the five stages of grief: denial, negotiation, anger, depression and acceptance. 3 In the denial phase, Bego constantly writes to Andrés in the hope of receiving a response. Then, in the negotiation stage, he asks for money to take a flight to Mexico and go see him. Throughout this phase, you begin to remember what your relationship was really like. At the same time, he maintains contact with Jessica, a gallery advisor who has seen his work and has asked him to create a new work for an exhibition scheduled in a few months. When anger comes, pain and anger overwhelm it. In a fit of fury upon realizing that Andrés has abandoned her, she throws a bottle of wine and accidentally cuts her foot. However, he discovers something unexpected: the desire to paint with his own blood. In the depression phase, Bego begins to deliberately cut his arm to get more blood to continue painting. His health deteriorates seriously to the point of being on the verge of death. In a final act, he makes one last incision, this time vertically, with the intention of concluding his work. Meanwhile, Jessica knocks on her door, worried that she hasn't heard from her in weeks. The story culminates in Jessica's gallery, where Bego's work is the centerpiece of the exhibition. Andrés is present and, through a conversation between the attendees, it is suggested that Bego has died. However, the truth is different: she is alive and, more than that, she has healed. In a final meeting with Andrés, she accepts his apology and lets him go, thus definitively closing a cycle of a toxic and dependent relationship to begin a new stage in her life.
