Sinopsis

Andrea, a psychologist specializing in alternative therapies, struggles to connect with Héctor, a patient who barely speaks. The pressure from her boss and her own frustration begin to affect her sessions, pushing her to the brink of losing control.

Acerca de la película

Andrea is in a session with Nerea, a patient who is telling her all about her romantic drama. Nerea is in love with a guy she really likes, but he is hooking up with one of her friends. As Nerea opens up and explains all the details of this complicated situation, Andrea manages to bring the therapy session to a successful conclusion, feeling satisfied with the outcome and confident that she has genuinely helped her patient. However, Andrea’s confidence does not last long, as her next patient, Héctor, walks through the door. Héctor barely speaks, and Andrea struggles to establish any kind of communication with him. No matter how hard she tries, she cannot get him to open up or engage in the session, which begins to frustrate her. The situation becomes even more complicated because Andrea feels a strong connection with him, making her inability to help him even more difficult to deal with on both a personal and professional level. The following week, Andrea meets with Nerea again for a trust-building therapy session. Everything seems to be going smoothly until Leire, Andrea’s boss, interrupts to announce that time is up. The interruption completely throws Andrea off balance, causing her to freeze in the middle of the activity and lose control of the situation, which results in Nerea falling over. The incident leaves Andrea feeling even more insecure and highlights the difficulties she is beginning to face when trying to manage her sessions. Next, it is Héctor’s turn. Determined to make some progress with him, Andrea decides to try laughter therapy, hoping to break the ice and help him relax and participate. However, her efforts once again prove unsuccessful. Héctor continues to react differently from what she expects, and the session fails to achieve its intended effect. Andrea becomes increasingly desperate, feeling as though she is losing control of her sessions and running out of ideas to connect with him. Growing more and more frustrated, Andrea decides to approach Leire and explain what is happening with Héctor. She admits that she is unable to make any progress with him and asks whether he could be referred to another therapist, convinced that perhaps someone else might succeed where she has failed. Leire, however, refuses to consider this option. Rather than showing understanding for Andrea’s difficulties, she tells her to do her job properly and reminds her that therapy works with everyone, making it clear that Andrea must find a way to reach her patient instead of giving up. Feeling defeated and unsure of how to handle the situation, Andrea returns to her session with Nerea. This time, however, her frustration gets the better of her. Unable to manage her own emotions, she ends up speaking harshly to Nerea, who feels offended and becomes angry enough to walk out of the session. The situation becomes yet another failure for Andrea, who begins to realise that her professional struggles are also affecting her relationships with her patients. When Leire finds out what has happened, she immediately reprimands Andrea for her behaviour and for losing control of the session. Instead of allowing her to walk away from the situation, Leire orders her to return to the therapy room and continue the session with Nerea, forcing her to deal with the conflict she has created. Completely overwhelmed by the pressure, Andrea must face her patient once again and attempt to get the session back on track, even though everything seems to have gone terribly wrong.
